The Torpedo Strikedown Lift System (TSLS) Land Based Test Site consists of a complete CG-47 class TSLS installation, arranged the same way as it is installed aboard ship. This system is used aboard ship to move torpedoes to/from the main deck torpedo magazines to the 02 level flight deck to resupply helicopters or to the 01 level deck for CONREP replenishment. It can also operate in pallet mode to move pallet loads up to 4000 lbs. between the 01 and 02 levels. In the fleet, the system is located at the main deck onboard DD-963/CG-47 class ships, just aft of the edge of the 02 level helipad coaming. At the NSWCCD-SSES test site, the equipment is installed inside a 4 level tower. The test site TSLS can handle the same loads as a fleet installation. The system has been used in fully operational mode to test modifications for upgrading the fleet installations to handle the mark 50 torpedo and Penguin Missile. MACHALTS 395 and 401 have been proofed out on this test site. In 1996, the TSLS control system was removed and the NSWCCD-SSES designed Strikedown Lift Improved Controls (SLIC) control system was installed and successfully tested. The SLIC control system is a much more reliable and rugged control system than the TSLS control system presently installed in the Fleet.
