Surface Ship Model 5415

Introduction

Model 5415 is a towing tank model representing a modern naval combatant. Hydrodynamic data obtained on the model is being used to validate Reynold's Averaged Navier Stokes computer codes. The work is funded by the Office of Naval Research.

Model Geometry

The following data is available:

The stereophotographic information provides a graphical, as well as a quantitative representation of the wave patterns obtained using overhead stereographic camera methods. The wave profiles are obtained by tracing wave heights along the hull. The wave cut data comes from a fixed capacitance probe (relative to the tank) that measures the change in water height as the model goes by. The whisker probe data comes from a probe which measures wave height around the hull.

The web listing will be updated periodically as newly obtained data is analyzed and historic data obtained on the model is digitized and added to this home page. If you are interested in being informed (by email) of these updates, please contact the Model 5415 Data Coordinator at (310) 227-7016.
