Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCCD), is committed to introducing students to the work environment by offering students the opportunity to work as a Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) participant. NSWCCD offers participants assignments to its mission and function, which relate to the academic endeavors of the SEAP participant.

NSWCCD professionals stimulate high school students' interest in careers in science and engineering, establish individual working relationships between students and active researchers and scientists, and strengthen the Nation's efforts to recruit and sustain persons for careers in science and engineering, consistent with affirmative action program goals and objectives.

Selected students are placed in a wide variety of scientific and engineering fields with practicing Division professional scientists and engineers. These professionals work with high school students during the summers, to give them a first-hand understanding of professional methods to foster their desire to pursue college-level training that will lead to careers in science and engineering.

Participants work for an eight-week period during the summer and receive a stipend of $1,500.00 and $1,550.00 for returning students. This will be paid in two installments.

After the summer, participants can return during the regular school year and/or school vacations for additional periods that maybe either full time or part-time work. Some apprentices, whose first placement is after their sophomore or junior year in high school, return for additional apprenticeships or other placements even in a different scientific field.
